Double dipping: Panthers win a pair as Mulé ties school scoring mark
ORANGE, Calif. - Living up to its No. 5 national ranking, the Chapman University men's water polo team swept a double-header on Day 1 of the Lancer Invitational, earning victories over Fresno Pacific University and California Maritime Academy Friday afternoon at Chapman's Allred Olympic Pool. Chapman is co-hosting the weekend tournament with Cal Baptist University.
Game 1: Chapman 11, Fresno Pacific 8
In the first game of the day the Panthers trailed by a
score of 3-1 in the first quarter before running off three straight
goals to take a 4-3 lead. FPU tied the game at 8-8 but that was as
close as Fresno Pacific could get as Chapman answered with three
straight goals to seal the victory 11-8.
Junior utility Alex Mulé and junior Austin McElvaney each chipped in three goals for the Panthers. With Mulé's third goal of the game, he tied Chapman's all-time scoring mark with 237 career goals.

Game 2: Chapman 10, Cal Maritime 7
Chapman never trailed on its way to a 10-7 victory over
Cal Maritime in its second game of the day. The Panthers took a 5-1
lead in the second quarter and led 6-3 at halftime. Cal Maritime
got within a goal trailing 6-5 midway through the third quarter but
Chapman responded with three goals to put the game away. Freshmen
utility Pierre Masson led the offensive attack
with three goals and McElvaney netted two in the game.
