ORANGE, Calif. – Following up one of the best seasons in the program's history, the Chapman University women's volleyball team opened up the 2013 campaign with an emphatic 4-0 showing at the Pacific Coast Classic Tournament at Pomona-Pitzer over the holiday weekend.
Game 1: Chapman 3, Franklin 0
The Panthers opened up the tournament with a clean sweep of the Franklin Titans on Friday morning (25-16, 25-9, 25-21). Junior transfer student Kat Marusich led the way, tallying 16 kills in her Chapman debut.

Game 2: Chapman 3, Lewis and Clark 1
Chapman was tested on Friday afternoon, but the women fought through four closely contested sets with Lewis and Clark College (Ore.) to close out the day with a second victory (26-24, 18-25, 25-22, 25-20). Senior S Corrine Ostrovsky compiled 42 of her 188 assists on the weekend en route to Pacific Coast Classic All-Tournament Team recognition.

Game 3: Chapman 3, UC Santa Cruz 2
The Panthers edged out the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs, earning a five set victory in a seesaw battle on Saturday morning (26-24, 20-25, 25-21, 20-25, 15-10). Junior MB Val Geiger led the team with 17 kills while Marusich and Michelle Hammer tallied 14 each.

Game 4: Chapman 3, Millikin 2
Facing another tough test in their final contest, the Panthers came from behind to defeat Millikin University (Ill.) in five sets (23-25, 25-16, 25-15, 21-25, 15-9). Geiger recorded a team high 22 kills, finishing the tournament with 3.9 kills per set and a spot on the All-Tournament team alongside her setter, Corrine Ostrovsky.
