Helgeson takes SCIAC weekly award
ORANGE, Calif. – Junior Cat Helgeson has been selected as the SCIAC Specialist of the Week after helping the Panthers to a 2-1 record in the first week of the SCIAC schedule.
Chapman's libero averaged 6.2 digs per set last week and now ranks 14th nationally as well as leads the SCIAC with 5.76 digs per set this season. Her 33 digs in the four-set match at Whittier tied her career-high set earlier this season. She also served up three aces – all in a row – in the sweep of Pomona-Pitzer.
Helgeson and the Panthers held their three opponents to just .129 hitting last week. In their two home matches, the Panthers allowed just a .095 hitting percentage.
Chapman has another three-match week ahead with a trip to Cal Lutheran on Tuesday, a home game against Caltech on Friday and a trip to Redlands on Saturday.
